AP LIVE Projects Provide Real-World Music Production Experience

Each year, the Arts Presenting and Live Entertainment Management Program (AP Live) adopts a school-wide project at the Frost School of Music and across the University of Miami with a broad scope that covers all areas of live event planning, budgeting, pre-production, rehearsal and production logistics, stage management, lighting, audio and technical support, marketing (social media, web and print) as well as assisting with artist relations, sponsorships, development, marketing, ticketing, box office and more.

“Dancing Glass” is an example of the exemplary project designed and presented in a collaborative, creative environment. The work was premiered in 2018, with additional performances thereafter. Arts Presenting graduate students have the opportunity to create projects that not only enhance their professional skills but strengthens their resumes, too.

Past Production Experience

Trailer for Lanza! In the 2010-2011 school year, Arts Presenting students and faculty worked hard to produce a new musical called “Be My Love—The Mario Lanza Story,” which the students in the program renamed “LANZA!”  They collaborated with the Phil Ramone Project, a special residency with the late multi-Grammy-winning producer Phil Ramone. Their participation spanned over a year and ranged from script rewrite suggestions, coordination of new songs with students in the Bruce Hornsby Creative American Music Program, coordinating auditions with the show producers and assisting with casting, staging a “concert reading” with a full orchestra on stage, props and lighting, and promoting the event in University of Miami's Gusman Concert Hall.
